Snowflake Challenge #10

(First, I should mention I know I am behind on getting back to a lot of people on here! I keep ending up unpredictably busy :') But I'm not intentionally ignoring anyone. I just want to keep up momentum with the Snowflake Challenge in particular because I know if I fall behind I probably won't follow through with the rest and I really want to complete it this year.)

Prompt #10: In your own space, talk about one of your fandom firsts.

I have already touched on the importance of The Secret Saturdays fandom to me in other posts I think, but I'm going to dive into a specific here: the first time I became introduced to fanon OCs and transformative fandom generally was through a vidder, artist, writer, and cosplayer named Mytokyokitty. Her AMVs were a centralized space on Youtube that made me realize I wasn't alone in being insane about this show, and her other videos showcased her and her friends' OC art. This made me realize there was a deeper layer to fandom creativity, bringing me over to DeviantART and Fanfiction.net.

This is the main video that made me realize the lengths to which you could actually go with playing with canon:

I did miss out on the first couple years of the fandom because I was like... 9... lol. But so many of the people she credits in the description are people I really looked up to once I did hop over and start participating myself! There are so many familiar, since-deactivated accounts it's nice to still have a fragment preserved of here.

Mytokyokitty's videos also inspired other fans to jump over to dA, including a few other kids who became really close friends of mine! Her work kinda bridged the gap between Youtube, where fanon content was more based in canon, to deviantART where people were inserting themselves into the world and expanding on ships and so on. It was kind of like a... "Oh you can DO THAT?" moment for me that changed me on a fundamental level. I started reading and writing fanfiction, making my own OCs, and just... stopped feeling so alone in my love for this show? It was a really special time for me and I'm so glad so many of those people are still hanging around in other places where we've been able to keep in touch and keep revisiting our old ideas and re-developing them out with new perspectives.

So, thank you to Mytokyokitty for really planting that seed for me! <3
