merydianBeen getting into vidding again and I wanna ramble about it semi-aimlessly. No matter how many times I try to get used to Dreamwidth I always somehow manage to fuck up the post cut, so sorry if anyone saw the 10 versions before this of me trying to fix it lol.
I've missed making fanvids soooooo much, but it is SUCH time-consuming task. I put a lot of pressure on myself to fully understand all the possible scenes I could pull from to make sure I'm choosing the best ones and it gets really hindering now that I have less time for creating. Like, realistically it doesn't matter. But for some reason I have it in my head that I can only vid this source to this song one time, and I can only use these structural ideas this one time and parallel these scenes this one time, etc. And that combined with how you can't typically tweak a fanvid after publishing in the way you can a fanfic... it drives me insane. More insane than I have the time to be.
That said, I've been working on a couple edits on and off. I am annoying and try not to disclose songs until I am actually done since if someone else does it first, I get kinda discouraged so I try not to increase the likelihood of that happening :( It is technically fine, Two Cakes Theory, etc. But it makes me feel better to do it this way lol, especially since Two Cakes Theory for vids does hit a little different than other mediums.
Anyway I'm still gonna talk about them a bit because, as another drawback compared to fics or fanart, it is very hard to post vid wips? So this is maybe helpful for incrementally getting out of my own head a little.
Current projects!
1. Festivids assignment! It's prompted me to rewatch something I care about quite a bit and I finally got a song chosen. I'm not sure how much time I'll have after this semester ends realistically, but there are some things I REALLY want to treat if I have time before the deadline too. (Need to keep these vague <3)
2. Doom Patrol fanvid focusing on the main group. This got cut short once school started back up, but I have a 3-ish minute WIP I'm SO close to being done with... but that I feel I need to rewatch the show again to properly fill the gaps on lol. I'm really proud of where I left it at least.
3. Arcane fanvid! I am having a slight crisis about this show lmfao. I have one particular song I think would be nice for the Zaun characters in particular: Vi, Jinx, and Ekko, and the way their stories intertwine alongside people like Vander or Isha. I might see if the other characters who grew up within the same timeframe have space, too, since it is sort of about growing up.
4. Got a couple WIPs for I Was a Teenage Exocolonist! It has been a nice way to challenge myself to get creative making illustrations visually interesting in the editing way. Foundthis old snippetthat I cannot seem to embed without the cut getting fucked up.
5. Also just remembered I have a Snowpiercer Melruth femslash fanvid I technically made 2 years ago but got too bored of it to do the audio leveling on for perfectionism stages before posting the final one. A friend kinda obsessively watched it which was SOOOOOO nice and good for my happy chemicals but meant I lost motivation to get over the final hurdle.I will toss it here for the hell of it in its eternal draft stage, especially since this was only up to season 3 and I have not yet watched season 4 and have no idea if I'll need to incorporate anything new into this.

And then there are a million others I've abandoned for lots of other fandoms :') I really need to be less perfectionist and maybe make smaller videos lol. It is kind of nice to have things to come back to if I rewatch a show, at least.
I don't really know how I want to go about posting these days. I typically unlist on Youtube or Vimeo and then embed on AO3. I had a lot of difficulty with inappropriate or hateful comments when I used to have fanvids public on Youtube and it is nice to keep things more quiet now. I do miss having a Youtube presence sometimes, though. The vidding community can be quite lovely and I'm kinda excluding myself from it in a way? I don't regret nuking my old channel, but I do sometimes wish I were using my new one more properly. I suppose I can still partake in other ways, like here perhaps.
